Are you ready to find out if you can be a martial arts champion? Yes?
Then get ready for PKSA Karate’s October Fist Tournament on Oct 21?
For the 2nd year, PKSA Karate is holding a local tournament. Last year the PKSA Karate Louisiana region hosted it’s first tournament in 10 years called the September Showdown. And they are doing it again this year! There was lots of fun in the St. Luke’s Gym as students competed in Forms, Weapons, Breaking and Sparring. There was a special division for our Tiny Tigers (ages 3 & 4) and our Little Ninjas (ages 5 & 6) in addition to the ranks from white belt to black belt and ages up to 83.
This year’s October Fist Tournament is shaping up to be a blast as well. There’s the awesome poster design by Alvin Nettles plus several new AND FUN events. This tournament is for all our students: ages 3-103. But there are some special events for different ages.
Watch this video to see what the new & really fun looking BUBBLE KUMITE is all about. There will be divisions for Tigers, Ninjas and ages 7-12. In each division, the bubble machine is turned on and 2 students have a time limit to kick and punch as many bubbles as they can. Judges stand by with clickers watching for good technique. Students with the most points are the winners. The 3-6 year olds will have one minute and ages 7-12 have 30 seconds.
Another fun new event is SIDE KICK SHOWDOWN! This event is for ages 7 and up, all ranks! PKSA Karate students compete 2 at time and are judged on the quality of their side kick. Then winners from each group compete for the VERY BEST side kick for the Grand Champion trophy!
While those events are fun and exciting, the PKSA Karate Tournament will have the usual martial arts events of forms, weapons, sparring and board breaking. These events are divided by age and rank. Black Belt students will compete for Grand Champion in Forms and Sparring; Red Belts will compete for Grand Champion in Forms.
But why should you compete in a tournament? It’s about your or your child challenging themselves. Most days everyone just goes along doing what they need to do: school or work; housework or homework; karate class. A tournament gives you a chance to step out of your every day life and show everyone what you’ve been doing in class. It’s a chance to see how far you’ve come since you started training. It’s also a chance to watch advanced ranks compete to see the quality of martial artist everyone can become.
